Centrifuge tube centrifugation technology

Jan 18, 2026|

Centrifugation has been widely applied in biological sciences, particularly in biochemistry and molecular biology research. Every biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory needs to prepare various types of centrifuges. Centrifugation is mainly used for the separation and preparation of various biological samples. When a biological sample suspension is placed in a centrifuge tube and rotated at high speed, the enormous centrifugal force causes suspended microparticles (such as organelles, precipitates of biological macromolecules, etc.) to settle at a certain speed, thus separating them from the solution.

Basic Principle: When a particle (biological macromolecule or organelle) is subjected to centrifugal force under high-speed rotation, this centrifugal force "F" is defined by the following formula: F = ma = mω²r where a - the acceleration of particle rotation, m - the effective mass of the settled particle, ω - the angular velocity of particle rotation, and r - the radius of rotation of the particle (cm). Centrifugal force is usually expressed as a multiple of Earth's gravity, hence it is called relative centrifugal force "RCF". Alternatively, it can be expressed by multiplying a number by "g". For example, 25000 × g means that the relative centrifugal force is 25000.
