Introduction to centrifuge tubes
Jan 16, 2026| Centrifuge tubes are tubular sample containers used in mechanical engineering laboratories. They can be equipped with sealing caps or compression caps and are primarily used for sample separation in fields such as biochemistry.
These containers are classified into three types according to capacity: large volume (500 mL, etc.), ordinary volume (50 mL, etc.), and micro volume (0.2 mL, etc.). Bottom shapes include conical, flat, and round bottoms. Sealing methods include compression caps and screw caps (flat caps/stopper caps). Materials include plastic, glass, and steel: plastic tubes are transparent and portable but easily deformed; glass tubes should be avoided during high-speed centrifugation; steel tubes are highly corrosion-resistant. The cap prevents sample leakage and evaporation and provides structural support. Centrifugation technology achieves biological sample separation through the centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotation; this force is related to particle mass, angular velocity, and radius of rotation.
