The Concept Of Ultrafiltration Hollow Fiber Membrane

Dec 08, 2025|

Hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes are a type of ultrafiltration membrane. It is one of the most mature and advanced ultrafiltration technologies. The walls of hollow fiber tubes are covered with micropores, with pore sizes designed to retain substances with relatively large molecular weights, ranging from several thousand to hundreds of thousands.

Raw water flows under pressure on the outside or inside the hollow fiber, creating external pressure and internal pressure systems, respectively. Ultrafiltration is a dynamic filtration process; retained substances can be removed with the concentrated water, preventing membrane surface clogging and allowing for long-term continuous operation. Ultrafiltration membranes are among the earliest developed polymer separation membranes.

Ultrafiltration technology is a high-tech widely used in water purification, solution separation and concentration, and the extraction of useful substances from wastewater for wastewater purification and reuse. Its advantages include simple operation, no heating required, energy saving, low-pressure operation, and small footprint.
